UHRF1 in complex with hemi-methylated DNA

UHRF1 is an E3 ligase necessary for proper maintenance of DNA methylation, which is important for numerous processes including X chromosome inactivation, parental imprinting, cell-type stability, and whole genome stability. UHRF1 works in conjunction with DNMT1 to faithfully replicate the epigenetic code. We have solved the crystal structure of the SRA domain with and without hemi-methylated DNA (see Nature paper).

PUBLICATION OF THE MONTH

Large-Scale Structural Analysis of the Classical Human Protein Tyrosine Phosphatome. Cell, 2009 January 23; 136 (2) 352-363

A comprehensive and thorough comparative study on human Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases (PTP) has been published by SGC Oxford in Cell. The team has been able to provide an expanded insight into intrafamily PTP diversity, catalytic activity, substrate recognition, and autoregulatory self-association, with potentially direct implications for the development of new therapeutics
